Final, Free-Choice Project Reflection: May 30, 2013
1. I made an insence burner on the pottery wheel. I spent a few days outside of class working on it, but it honestly didn't take me too long to make. I used the white clay to build it and glazed it when it was done.
2. I LOVE the glaze on my project because they turned out really crazy and colorful. I also like the shape of the base because it came out really clean.
3. I think I could have made the base a little taller and the lid a little less thick because it's pretty chunky.
4. This piece of pottery is made to hold insence cones while they burn. The holes in the lid help with the ventilation and let the smoke come out.
5. I think the color is my most important element in this project. I used a lot of cool colors because I like them more than warm colors. I also like the texture of this glaze. I put it on thick and drippy because I wanted a somewhat chaotic look with the colors blurring together and it's really smooth.
6. I think the important principles to this piece are Movement and Unity. Movement because your eyes constantly want to look around the whole piece because of the crazy glazes.Unity because the cool colors give it a look that I like.
7. I learned that sometimes you just need to take risks and let things happen. I put the glaze on not knowing what was going to happen, and I ended up loving it.
8. I recently got really interested in my friend's insence burner and I got the idea that I could probably make one. So I did. First, I made the base on the wheel. I decided that I wasn't going in with a plan. I just needed a bowl, and that's what I came out with. Next I made a lid on the wheel. That was quite the challenge, but it payed off. After the lid dryed a little, I cut holes and carved designs in it. Once it was fired, I went crazy with the glazes.
9. I didn't have a strict plan or picture in my head, so I didn't have any dissappointments. The most challenging part was the lid, but I just tried new techniques, and eventually got it right.
10. Yes, I loved this project. I loved the fact that I could make whatever I wanted. For my next project, I will be painting a few murals in my room. I've got a few already sketched out. All I have left is to paint.
